This week, bodycam footage emerged of tech titan Larry Ellison confessing to breaking the law after a traffic cop caught him speeding and disregarding a stop sign on Lanai island.
The officer is heard telling Ellison, “The reason I stopped you is you ran through the stop sign and you were kind of speeding there.” The officer then issued him a citation.
Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle and Forbes’ sixth richest person on the planet has a net worth estimated at $108.3 billion.
Ellison purchased 98% of Lanai’s 90,000 acres, and two luxury hotels, for $300 million dollars in 2012.
Praising the officer, Gabe Johnson – a local lawmaker – applauded his enforcement of the law against the individual who could technically be considered his landlord.
“To have one of our own police officers actually treat him like an equal just as everyone should be treated equally under the eyes of the law — I’m proud to say, ‘Nice job, MPD.”
Although Ellison has had run-ins with locals and local officials in the past, he admitted to the infraction. “I was trying to get home for dinner with my kids but there’s no excuse.”
