Baby Seal Makes Friends with Surfers and Rides Some Waves

A seal pup was seen interacting with surfers in California, even laying in the sun and rides waves on their surfboards.

One of the surfers posted on Instagram that it was “the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me… never getting rid of this board… endlessly grateful to @dronedudeed for being there with me and capturing this incredible moment on his cam.”

The seal pup was sighted by a few surfers off Tourmaline Beach which is located north of San Diego.

The fun included the pup getting on the surfboards, baking in the sun, and even catching a few waves with the surfers, all captured on camera by a drone.

The surfers contacted SeaWorld so that professionals could make sure the infant seal was healthy.

SeaWorld official Tracy Rahr told NBC San Diego said, “Upon arrival, it appeared healthy and was in the water when the team went out to evaluate, so there was no need to intervene as the pup also appeared to be old enough to care for itself.”

The surfers thought that perhaps the mother seal of the baby seal had passed away, but SeaWorld said they had not had any reports of a dead seal.

According to CBS News, seal pups are typically sociable and will approach people. Also, when their mothers are hunting, they typically leave their pups behind.
