A Tempe man is charged with criminal trespass and indecent exposure after it was claimed that he publicly baptized himself, at a church fountain in Mesa, while buck naked.
Jeremiah Sykes, 20, allegedly exposed himself in a baptism fountain at One Life Church, according to arrest records.
Police were informed that the man was sitting there, refusing to leave. Sykes reportedly took a blanket and departed as soon as the police were contacted. He was discovered nearby by officers, still nude and holding a blanket.
Sykes acknowledged that he baptized himself while naked, but he said he departed after being requested to do so.Â
He was arrested at the scene because of his outstanding warrants and the day’s activities. Charges of indecent exposure and criminal trespassing were recommended.Â
After being taken to the Mesa jail, Sykes allegedly tossed his sock at a detention officer and then punched the officer in the head as the police approached. When attempting to step in, another officer was also hit.
Officers were able to contain Sykes. Due to a cut near his eyebrow, the cop who took the first punch was sent to the hospital.Â
After having his Miranda rights read out for the new allegations, Sykes steadfastly resisted being questioned. His booking picture isn’t yet available.Â
Sykes has been detained in the past for first-degree criminal trespassing, aggravated assault on a correctional guard, and criminal damage, according to court records.
Sykes’ prior criminal warrants made him ineligible for bail.
