Child Sized Cat Likes His Cuddles

A two-stone Russian cat that is believed to be the largest in the world is so massive that it is frequently mistaken for a dog.

Kefir is a large Maine Coon, owned for two years by Yulia Minina who lives in Stary Oskol, a city in Russia. He was named after the fermented milk drink.

He clearly likes milk because he has grown to weigh 28 lbs, the same as the average two-year-old child. Even more surprising, Minina claims Kefir is still growing!

‘He is still considered a kitten. Maine Coons grow up to 3-4 years. Therefore, I think it should become even larger.’

Maine Coon males weigh up to 18 lbs, on average, and females weigh up to 12 lbs making Kefir an outlier.

Despite his appearance suggesting otherwise, the cat is “a very affectionate and modest child,” she says. ‘When friends and acquaintances come to the house – all the attention is on him and he willingly allows himself to be stroked.”

He likes to crawl up on her at night to sleep as well. It wasn’t a problem when he was a kitten, ‘but now he has become big and heavy, and, of course, it is difficult to sleep like that.”
