Creepy Cookie Monster Scares Santa Cruz

The Santa Cruz Police Department is warning people not to interact with a man who has been spotted recently near the Santa Cruz wharf and Beach Boardwalk wearing a Cookie Monster costume.

According to SCPD spokesman Joyce Blaschke, the agency has received calls from worried citizens who claim the individual costumed as the famous “Sesame Street” figure is unsettling and scary.

The individual has a reputation for badgering people, according to Blaschke.

Adam Sandler, who has not yet been charged with any crime in this case, was recognized in a Los Angeles Times piece dated 2016.

    No, not that Adam Sandler.

In other locations, such as New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, he allegedly faced criminal charges for making threats against visitors, other street performers, and store owners.

His despicable behavior includes rants against Jews and threats against local business owners and residents. He even got himself involved in an extortion case involving the Girl Scouts, an organization he temped for on a short-term computer programming project.

The New York Times revealed that in 2012 Sandler, while in Central Park, was caught on camera yelling antisemitic and xenophobic insults while dressed as the “Sesame Street” character Elmo.

2014 saw Sandler charged with being a public nuisance and threatening a Fisherman’s Wharf shop owner. The owner had put up a notice stating that the costumed man was not a store employee.

According to the Los Angeles Times, he entered a plea of guilty to being a public nuisance and was given a five-year ban from a number of San Francisco tourist hotspots, including Fisherman’s Wharf, Union Square, and the Embarcadero.
