Neighbors’ Properties Flooded After Man Explodes Beaver Dam

A man from Montmorency County Michigan is accused of using explosives to blow up a beaver dam near Crooked Creek.

Dan Liestenfeltz, a conservation officer with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, looked into the event after receiving calls about gunshots and a huge explosion that shook adjacent residences.

One of the callers surmised that the sounds were coming from a property of a new neighbor. The caller guessed that a beaver dam had been demolished because the river had started to rise dramatically after the explosion. The rising river had caused their property to begin flooding.

The destroyed damn was found and several .308 rifle casings were recovered by CO Liestenfeltz.

The officer also observed that the water level had dropped upstream. After getting in touch with the property owner, CO Liestenfeltz learned that he had used a sizable chunk of Tannerite to blow up the dam.

According to the suspect, he hadn’t anticipated things happening as swiftly as they did once the dam was removed.

The weapon used to shoot at the Tannerite was seized, and the Montmorency County Prosecutor’s Office will now decide whether to officially charge the suspect with demolishing a beaver dam without permission.
