What would you do if you discovered that your bank account was about $100 billion overdrawn? An Ocean County widow who reached out to a local news station for help when that very thing happened.
Patricia Conlon claims that she discovered the unexpected bank balance when she awoke on Friday. She immediately called Chase Bank.
“I saw that there was a number there – negative $99,999,999,099.99,” Conlon said . “I was stunned, needless to say.”
Conlon claims that throughout the course of the following few hours, she spoke with a number of different company divisions in an effort to learn how the overdraw happened.
“One of the people I spoke to mumbled something about a deceased account holder,” she said.
Two months ago, Conlon’s husband passed away. She wondered how this could result in a negative bank balance.
According to a Chase Bank spokeswoman, holds are put on the accounts of clients who have passed away while they attempt to contact the family or surviving members.
The $99 billion overdraft was resolved by Chase within a few more hours.
“Keep a close eye on your bank account,” Conlon said. “Know your rights.”
According to a Chase spokeswoman, the business will keep looking into what caused the problem.
