Chicken Involved in Conspiracy to Bring Embarassment to Mexico City’s Mayor

    A chicken running loose on the subway tracks in Mexico City temporarily stopped service.

    The Metro system released video footage showing electricity to the station had been cut off.

    Maintenance workers and civil defense officials were seen pursuing the elusive bird across the railroad tracks using brooms, gloves, and trash bags.

    After several failed attempts to capture it, one worker finally covered the chicken with his coat and grabbed it.

    Service was soon restored according to metro personnel.

    Several problems have plagued Mexico City’s subway system, which city officials have attributed to sabotage. Earlier this year, a woman was detained after pieces of a plastic washing machine agitator fell on the subway lines at another stop. A woman was detained but eventually freed after it was found that the incident was unintentional.

    Mayor of Mexico City Claudia Sheinbaum, thought to be the most likely candidate to replace President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s Morena in the next presidential election, has frequently been embarrassed by such incidents.

    Sheinbaum often ascribes such setbacks, as the president does, to a conspiracy to make her look bad.
