After trying to hide from deputies by burying himself under a pile of house insulation, a Florida man accused of burglary found himself in an “itchy situation,” according to the authorities.
Deputies were summoned to a home burglary that was taking place in North Fort Myers, Florida, on Sunday, March 26, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
In an odd turn of events, the alleged burglar scampered up to the attic and hid from the police under a mound of house insulation, his face close to an air duct so he could breathe.
Police, after arriving at the house, heard “someone strolling in the attic of the home.” A five-gallon bucket and bits of insulation were then discovered below the attic entrance. This easily solved the mystery of where the man had been hiding.
According to the sheriff’s office, after the suspect refused to come down, deputies tried to flush him out of the attic using non-lethal gas. Deputies entered the attic with a K-9 unit and the dog swiftly located Bruce Davis, 44, hidden beneath some insulation.
The suspect can be seen sticking his hands out from under a stack of insulation in photos released by the sheriff’s office.
After Davis’ attempted heist, according to the police, they discovered “a broken window, appliances in use, and tools scattered throughout the residence,” during Davis’ attempted robbery.
Following his arrest, Davis was given burglary and officer resistance charges.
Later, he was checked into the Marceno Motel. According to Police, Davis has a long criminal past that includes theft and numerous narcotics offenses.
A $31,500 bond was set, according to the records.
