GPS Drawing of 637-Mile-Long Velociraptor Wins Guinness World Record

A bicycle team has claimed the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest GPS drawing.

The team of four French cyclists “drew’ a Velociraptor. Their winning entry, which took 43 hours and 47 minutes to finish, was 637 miles long.

Over the course of six days the “drawing” was made across the French counties of Cher, Saone-et-Loire, Indre, Nievre, Creuse, Puy-de-dome, and Allier.

The team used a velociraptor as its model because the name contains the word “velo,” which is French for “bicycle.”

The route to bring the dinosaur to life took a year to arrange. They finally started their record-breaking ride in November 2022 and in March 2023 Guinness published their record.

“Dinosaurs are proof that such strong species can quickly become extinct,” said cyclists Maxime Brugère. “We are the main culprits of this environmental crisis, but also its main victims. As such, the future is in our hands and cycling is one of the best ways to contribute to change.”

He and the group identify as triathletes and everyday commuters who place an emphasis on the advantages of cycling to work over driving.

They uploaded their dinosaur design to the fitness app Strava, where it garnered thousands of likes from other cyclists.
