Wednesday night, two bright spots in the sky reportedly surprised some Central Valley homeowners.
Once NASA confirmed that the stars were in fact Jupiter and Venus on Thursday, the sheriff of Stanislaus County posted on Facebook to advise residents not to phone 911.
The sheriff stated, “there is no cause to report this,” adding that dispatch had received numerous calls.
According to NASA’s website, the two planets passed each other at a distance of about half a degree as Venus slowly shifted toward Jupiter.
A little fun was added to the situation through responses to the sheriff’s post.
One person commented, “I love the thought process: ‘Oh my god, what is that in the sky? Maybe the sheriff can help!’”
“These people drive on the same roads we do and they vote,” laughted another.
