A group of school girls was taken to the hospital in an ambulance after using a Ouija board.
The 28 students from Colombia’s Galeras Educational Institute passed out while using the board during a seance.
They were admitted to the hospital due to symptoms like fainting and anxiety, it was said. The youngsters were accompanied by the school’s administrators and concerned teachers.
“There were 28 possible cases of anxiety in school students,” said Hugo Torres, director of the Galeras Educational Institution.
He pointed out that the community was inundated with comments that, rather than helping, sowed confusion.
Taking them to the hospital was simply following protocol, he pointed out.
“Throughout the evaluation procedure, teachers and directors were present with the pupils,” said Torres. “At the time, the situation was conveyed to the appropriate parents and/or guardians.”
The first two hospitalized students have underlying medical issues, Torres added. “The school is waiting for the medical diagnoses to provide further trustworthy information,” he clarified.
Torres asked that the public refrain from forming their own early conclusions and diagnoses.
The children had been using Ouija boards in class, according to many parents. “I work here in a hospital kiosk and every day I see three or four children arriving after fainting,” one mother said.
“Parents, you have to move, investigate what’s happening at school, because our children cannot continue in this situation.”
“Our children always have a good breakfast and it cannot be said that what’s happening is due to lack of food,” the parent added.
When the school intends to provide an update on the pupils’ medical conditions is unknown and authorities have not yet confirmed whether there is an investigation taking place.
