According to Colorado police, a driver who was stopped for speeding attempted to exchange places with his dog in order to avoid being arrested.
On Saturday night in Springfield, a community of roughly 1,300 people on the state’s Eastern Plains, a police officer observed the man switching places with his dog in the front seat.
The man then got out of the passenger side of the vehicle, according to a police Facebook post, and claimed he had not been the one driving.
Police claim the man plainly displayed signs of intoxication. When the officer inquired about how much he had consumed, the man attempted to flee but was apprehended within 20 yards of the vehicle.
The man was taken to the hospital to be examined.
After being released, he was arrested on suspicion of several offenses including: driving while intoxicated by alcohol or drugs, driving while cognitively impaired, and violating prior arrest warrants.
The canine is in the care of an acquaintance of the driver. According to police, “the dog does not face any charges and was let go with just a warning.”
